If parents could grow their IQ each time they got worried about their children, most of them would leave behind Einstein!! As soon as children cross Middle School, looking for the right answers/ choices becomes a daily ritual for parents. The process starts with which stream to choose, what career choices to make, whether to take Math or a foreign language, which colleges to apply to, and ultimately study in India or Abroad?
And when it comes to UG, the most common questions on every parent’s and student’s mind are –

CBSE and ICSE/ISC are the top 2 Boards in India through which students appear for their class 12th.
In 2019 alone, 12,05,484 students appeared for class XII CBSE board and 86,713 students appeared for ICSE Board. Both boards put together there were more than 12.9 lac students. As I blog on this in April 2020, the number of students in XII , both boards put together is close to (.10%) of the total population of the country. The number (.10) looks minuscule but ask a statistician. The number is humongous.

A peek a boo into some prestigious Indian Universities for Undergraduate Courses:
With 2,58,388 applications coming in from different States and Countries for a total of 62,000 seats (year 2019) it is one the most popular names among the students applying for undergraduate courses. Some well known brands like the LSR, the SRCC and the St Stephens are a part of it.
As in 2020, the total number of seats for the UG Programmes in these 23 IITs are 11,279. 25 IIIT’s out of 24 operating with 4023 And 31 NIT with 17967 seats.
According to NTA, there were 9,21,261 registrations for Paper 1 and 1,38,409 for Paper 2 (January session) that were raised for just 78 colleges with 33,269 seats.
The numbers are intimidating enough to shatter the confidence of a 17 year old!
A total of 15,93,452 lakh candidates have applied for the NEET 2020 across India. With ~66-67K seats in total for MBBS and 26,790 for BDS and 1,107 seats under AIIMS. In 2019, there were more than 15 lakh candidates for the exam which is a 14.52 percent rise from NEET 2018.
